Position Purpose and Summary
To provide custodial services and maintain clean, hygienic, and tidy premises for the areas assigned. To clean carpets and refinish floors in areas assigned by manager or coordinators.
Key Areas of Accountability

Perform the following daily:
-
Empty all wastebaskets and garbage cans in residences and/or classrooms, offices, and washrooms, washing as needed.

Clean and sanitize all washrooms, keeping toilet and towel dispensers filled. Clean mirrors.
-
Empty sanitary napkin disposals and replace with clean bags.
-
Clean all toilets and urinals with cleaner keeping deodorant blocks supplied.
-
Vacuum all carpeted areas, offices, classrooms, stairs, and hallways as needed.

Clean all blackboards/whiteboards as needed.
-
Clean all glass doors and entryways.
-
Pick up recycling around campus.

Perform the following on an "as needed" or rotational basis as decided by the either by the coordinator or manager of the department:
-
Clean inside windows.
-
Clean stains from walls, doors, posts, and carpets, also fingerprints from switches and switch plates.
-
Dust and wipe down all office desks, chairs, tables, ledges, and name plates. Straighten furniture, as necessary.

Maintaining equipment - empty vacuum as well as other equipment used regularly.
-
Remove all spiders and webs.
-
Report all damage and breakage immediately upon discovery.
-
Clear and sweep all outside walkways and steps of assigned areas.
-
Perform repairs on toilet as needed.
-
Replace all burnt out lights (bulbs and tubes to a maximum height of 8ft.)

Keep floors clean – this includes floor stripping and refinishing, carpet spot cleaning using the mini extractor, shampoo all assigned areas carpets, scheduling, physically obtaining and returning the carpet extractor, as well as maintaining all equipment used by emptying and rinsing solution tanks, rinsing brushes, and wiping down outside.

Clean outside windows of assigned areas (this may include the use of a ladder and washing wand). This will be assigned by the supervisor specifically in discussion with the BSW 2.

Work co-operatively with staff, faculty, and students. Act in a manner that examples Christian commitment and displays servant leadership in the accomplishment of all duties.

Provide cleaning services for university event preparations such as window cleaning, floor cleaning, washroom cleaning, and other necessary cleaning services.

Skills and Abilities

Must be able to understand, speak, read, and write English sufficiently to safely and effectively perform job duties, follow instructions, complete required documentation, report hazards and incidents, and communicate with supervisors, coworkers, students, and the public.

Demonstrated skills and knowledge of custodial work and normal custodial machinery.
-
A knowledge of the use of cleaning solutions and other products used in normally servicing building is required.

Ability to relate in a positive manner to students, staff and faculty.
-
Ability to physically fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
-
Ability to work inside/outside in all weathers. Ability to work with a flexible schedule.

Standards & Requirements
Education: Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Certifications: Must successfully complete WHMIS training and demonstrate knowledge of safe handling, storage, and use of workplace hazardous materials as a condition of employment.
Experience: 1 – 2 years in Custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, building services, or related experience.
Duties and responsibilities that do not constitute a major change may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of the supervisor either orally or in writing.
