Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Early Childhood Educator (ECE) - Level 2 to join our team. This role involves reviewing and evaluating child-care curriculum, educational programs and age-appropriate learning activities, and recommending improvements to support children’s development and program quality.. Duties
- Review and evaluate child-care curriculum, educational programs and age-appropriate learning activities, and recommend improvements to support children’s development and program quality.
- Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
- Lead and participate in age-appropriate activities, including reading or telling stories, teaching songs, organizing games and recreational activities, and providing opportunities for creativity through art, dramatic play, music and physical activity.
- Accompany children on outings and local points of interest, as appropriate.
- Observe, monitor and document children’s play, development, daily activities and progress, including daily observations, activities, meals, rest periods, medications administered, and infant, toddler or preschool daily reports.
- Assess children’s abilities, interests and needs, and discuss progress, concerns or developmental issues with parents, guardians, supervisors and other staff members.
- Guide and assist children with eating, dressing, toileting, resting, hygiene and other personal care routines, including changing diapers, dressing children, sterilizing bottles and preparing formulas, where applicable.
- Prepare and serve meals and snacks, support healthy mealtime routines, and assist with cooking duties as required.
- Establish and follow behaviour guidance practices that support positive behaviour, self-help skills, responsibility, emotional development, social development, and positive self-concept.
- Observe children for signs of potential learning, behavioural, emotional or developmental concerns, and prepare reports or bring concerns to the attention of parents, guardians or supervisors.
- Identify or recognize signs of abuse and report concerns in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and legal requirements.
- Plan and maintain a safe, clean, healthy and organized environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children.
- Organize, store, clean and sanitize toys, materials, equipment and play areas, and maintain classroom order and cleanliness.
- Maintain daycare equipment and assist with housekeeping duties, including laundry, cleaning, dishwashing and changing linens.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers, parents, guardians and community service providers working with children.
- Attend staff meetings to discuss children’s progress, concerns, programming and operational matters.
- Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers, as required.
- Order supplies and equipment as required.
- Maintain knowledge of the Early Learning and Child Care Act, applicable licensing regulations, behaviour guidance requirements, and workplace policies as well as the center’s policies and procedures.
Experience
- 4 years to less than 5 years relevant experience
- Proven Experience in developing educational programs and age-appropriate learning activities is required.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in special education is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and team members
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles, teaching strategies, and classroom management techniques
- Familiarity with computer operation for documentation purposes
- Leadership qualities such as initiative, teamwork, and the ability to guide young learners effectively
