Lead Electrician (442A) – Industrial Automation & Robotics
Our client is a well-established manufacturer specializing in custom industrial automation systems, robotic cells, and special purpose machinery for customers across a variety of industries. They design, build, integrate, and commission innovative automated equipment that improves manufacturing efficiency and productivity.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Lead Electrician to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building custom automation equipment from the ground up, leading projects, and working with cutting-edge robotics and industrial controls.
What You'll Do
- Lead the electrical build and installation of custom automation equipment and robotic systems.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
- Install, wire, troubleshoot, and commission industrial control panels and automation equipment.
- Work closely with Mechanical Designers, Controls Engineers, and Project Managers throughout the build process.
- Perform electrical integration of PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, VFDs, safety circuits, sensors, and industrial devices.
- Support equipment testing, debugging, and final machine commissioning.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical issues during assembly and startup.
- Ensure all work complies with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and company quality standards.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to electricians and apprentices when required.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve build quality and efficiency.
- Assist with customer installations and occasional travel for equipment commissioning if required.
Qualifications
- 442A Industrial Electrician Certificate of Qualification (required).
- Minimum 5 years of industrial electrical experience.
- Previous experience building custom automation equipment, robotic cells, or special purpose machines (SPM) is required.
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and machine wiring.
- Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics.
- Hands-on experience with industrial controls including:
- PLC I/O wiring
- Servo motors and drives
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Safety relays and safety circuits
- Industrial sensors and field devices
- Comfortable troubleshooting electrical systems during machine startup.
- Strong problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while leading electrical build activities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Experience
Experience working with one or more of the following is considered an asset:
- FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or Universal Robots
- Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation
- Siemens automation systems
- Industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, DeviceNet)
- Machine commissioning and customer site installations
