POSITION SUMMARY
Carlson Engineered Composites is looking for several experienced Composite Technicians.
The Composite Technician's responsibility is to apply fibreglass lay-up to individual composite parts and components. This includes, but is not limited to, prepping tools, using hand tools to mix and apply fibreglass lay-up, as well as grinding, sanding composite parts and components, and other finishing processes to create a final, high-quality product.
This position is a full-time, hourly paid position, whichenjoys many benefits, such as a Monday to Friday schedule, with both day and evening shifts available, an amazingcomplement of employee benefits and deferred profit-sharing.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE POSITIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Initiate tool movements and prep/cleaning in a designated fibreglass lay-up stall.
- Cut fibreglass mat and press / or lay mat over individual composite parts and components, ensuring that there is no bubbling of the material.
- Using a grinder to grind excess material.
- Using a sander to smooth out composites and components.
- Inspect tools to ensure they meet the required specifications and identify any defects present.
- Complete assigned work within the given timeframe and according to specifications.
- Keep all work areas, including part storage area, clean and organized, emptying scrap and garbage containers as necessary.
- Cleaning and maintaining work tools such as rollers, brushes, grinders, electric tools and other pieces of equipment.
- Cleaning and maintaining safety equipment such as respirators and dust masks.
- Maintain all quality standards following the specifications for each job to meet customer requirements.
- Performs additional duties as deemed necessary.
- Takes initiative and is a self-starter
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS
- Required: Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
- Required: Ability to maintain a high level of quality while engaged in repetitive tasks throughout the day.
- Preferred: Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
QUALIFICATIONS, WORK CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Comfortable with wearing a ½ mask face respirator while performing specified work tasks.
- Comfortable with wearing full-body protective coveralls throughout the day.
- Comfortable with working in an environment that has strong fabrication material odours and fabrication material residue.
- Comfortable working with adhesive materials.
- Able to multitask.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple duties/projects at one time, work independently with minimal supervision, and professionally resolve conflicts.
- Maintains open communication and a team-oriented work environment with all departments and all levels of personnel.
- Demonstrates flexibility and professionalism throughout the day.
- Adhere to all start/end times, including break and lunch schedules.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination.
- A strong focus on safety, following all safety rules every shift.
- Strong communication skills, ability to listen carefully to directions and understand complex manufacturing instructions.
