Atlas Geostructural Inc. is a specialized geotechnical and geostructural engineering firm providing practical engineering support for shoring, deep foundations, construction monitoring, testing, and temporary works. Our work includes soldier pile and lagging systems design, braced excavations design, tiebacks, rakers, micropiles, helical piles, caisson wall support, drill rig working platform design, settlement monitoring, vibration monitoring, pre-condition surveys, and QA/QC field review.
We are seeking a Geostructural Engineer to join our growing team and support design, field review, instrumentation, and construction-phase engineering services across Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
· Detailed design and review temporary and permanent EARTH RETENTION SYSTEMS, including restrained and unrestrained systems, Soldier Piles and Lagging, Rakers, Braced Excavations, Tiebacks, Micropiles, Helical piles, and working platforms.
· Prepare engineering calculations, design sketches, technical memoranda, and design reports.
· Review geotechnical investigation reports, borehole logs, groundwater conditions, and soil/rock parameters for design input.
· Perform field review of shoring installation, drilling, tieback testing, micropile testing, helical pile installation, and other specialty foundation works.
· Interpret field data and prepare technical reports.
· Coordinate with contractors, owners, consultants, and project teams during bidding, construction, and closeout.
· Support project proposals, quotations, construction methodology reviews, and technical submissions.
· Mentor junior staff and assist with internal QA/QC procedures.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. A master’s degree or PHD in geotechnical or structural engineering is an asset.
· Licensed P.Eng. in Ontario
· Minimum 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in geostructural engineering/design.
· Practical experience with shoring, deep foundations, excavation support, or temporary works is strongly preferred.
· Familiarity with applicable Ontario/Canadian standards, OBC, NBCC, CSA, AASHTO, PTI, ASTM, FHWA, OPSS specifications, and construction practices.
· Experience with software such as DeepEX, Shoring Suite, Settle3, PLAXIS 3D, RSPile, LPile, or similar engineering tools is an asset.
· Strong technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
· Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle for site visits.
Preferred Experience
Experience in any of the following areas will be considered an asset:
· ERSS design.
· Micropiles and helical pile design.
· Drill rig working platform design in accordance with O. Reg. 345/15 and industry guidance.
· Review of excavation support systems adjacent to utilities, buildings, roads, and rail corridors.
· Preparation of engineering reports, certificates of conformance, and construction review letters.
