HVAC, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) Estimator
Position Summary
The HVAC, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial, industrial, and residential construction projects. This role analyzes project plans, specifications, and other documentation to determine labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs while ensuring estimates align with project scope, company standards, and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
· Review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings and specifications.
· Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
· Develop complete project estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, permits, and indirect costs.
· Solicit, evaluate, and compare vendor and subcontractor quotations.
· Prepare accurate bid proposals and supporting documentation.
· Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives.
· Coordinate with project managers, engineers, designers, and operations teams to clarify project requirements.
· Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client walkthroughs as required.
· Analyze project risks, assumptions, exclusions, and contingencies.
· Maintain current pricing databases for labor, materials, and equipment.
· Monitor market pricing trends and supplier availability.
· Assist with contract reviews and project handoffs after award.
· Maintain organized estimating records and documentation.
· Support continuous improvement of estimating procedures and standards.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent industry experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of estimating experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or MEP construction.
- Strong understanding of commercial and/or residential building systems.
- Experience interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards.

- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong negotiation and vendor relationship management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while reviewing plans and preparing estimates.
- Occasional travel to project sites for field verification and pre-bid meetings.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when handling plans, samples, or equipment.
Performance Expectations
- Produce accurate and timely estimates.
- Meet bid submission deadlines.
- Maintain estimating accuracy within established company targets.
- Foster positive relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Support profitable project acquisition through competitive and well-developed bids.
