ROLE
The Journeyperson Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic is responsible for repairing, troubleshooting, adjusting, overhauling and maintaining mobile heavy-duty equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fabricate, construct, install, and repair equipment and machinery.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs from initiation to completion, ensuring accurate documentation of all steps involved.
- Diagnose equipment problems and determine required repairs.
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.
- Repair, overhaul, maintain, and service heavy trucks and heavy construction equipment.
- Repair, overhaul, maintain and service fuel injection systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, air conditioning systems, lubrication systems, engine control systems, major internal engine repairs or overhaul, installation and alignment of engines and machinery.
- Repair, overhaul, maintain and service drive trains and final drives, hydraulic transmissions, power take-offs, tracked vehicle suspensions and steering, vehicle brake systems, wheel-mounted vehicle suspension and steering.
- Troubleshoot and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to Apprentice Heavy-Duty Mechanics, ensuring they gain the necessary skills and experience to meet industry standards.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Journeyperson Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic Certificate from a recognized provincial training authority.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Experience
- Previous work experience in a heavy-duty equipment mechanic role is a requirement.
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of truck and equipment safety.
- Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures.
- Knowledge of operation of various pieces of heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage procedures.
- Knowledge of handling hazardous materials and industry waste.
- Mechanical aptitude and interest.
- Familiar with ACSA, WCB, and Work Safe BC standards and practices.[BS1]
- Must supply personal tools necessary for the role.
- This is a shop-based position, and a mechanic truck is not required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based at our Spruce Grove yard. Must be able to work 5 – 6 days/week, 8 – 10 hours/day.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Journeyperson Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic reports to the Foreperson Mechanic and the Equipment Manager.
