Overview
Mellwood Design & Build is seeking an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented Hardscape Foreman / Lead Installer to lead residential landscape construction projects throughout Oakville and surrounding areas.
We specialize in high-end hardscaping including interlock, patios, driveways, walkways, retaining walls, armour stone, steps, grading, drainage, and outdoor living spaces. We are looking for a leader who can confidently run a crew, maintain quality standards, communicate professionally, and keep projects operating efficiently from start to finish.
The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, experienced in hardscape construction, and capable of leading a team while maintaining a high level of workmanship and professionalism on-site.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a hardscape crew on residential construction projects
- Read and interpret site layouts, measurements, elevations, and design plans
- Oversee excavation, grading, base preparation, compaction, and installation procedures
- Install interlock, retaining walls, armour stone, coping, steps, natural stone, and related hardscape materials
- Ensure all work is completed to company quality standards and project timelines
- Coordinate daily job site workflow and task delegation
- Operate and supervise the safe use of construction equipment and tools
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional job sites
- Communicate effectively with homeowners, subcontractors, suppliers, and management
- Identify and solve on-site issues efficiently and professionally
- Ensure crew members follow proper safety procedures and workmanship standards
- Track materials, site progress, and labour productivity throughout projects
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of hardscape or landscape construction experience
- Previous experience leading or managing a crew
- Strong knowledge of interlock installation and hardscape construction procedures
- Experience with grading, drainage, retaining walls, and step construction
- Ability to operate equipment such as skid steers, plate compactors, concrete saws, and excavators
- Strong understanding of proper base preparation and installation methods
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s licence
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to problem solve and maintain productivity on-site
- Physically capable of demanding labour and lifting heavy materials
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high-end residential hardscape projects
- Experience operating mini excavators or skid steers
- Ability to read construction drawings and elevations
- AZ/DZ licence considered an asset
- Experience training or mentoring crew members
