ACT 2 Child and Family Services is a non-profit organization that offers a variety of programming throughout the Lower Mainland. The Family Program is for families with children up to the age of 12 that are currently involved with MCFD’s Family Service and Child Protection Services. The Family Program provides parenting skills development and assessment, education, support and intervention. This is an intensive parenting program for parents who have or are at increased risk of neglecting and/or abusing their children. This position requires outreach services
The Family Program is seeking a Temporary Full Time Parent Educator to work 35 hours per week Monday through Thursday.
Qualifications:
· Minimum completion of Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (social work, child and youth care, psychology) and at least 2 years of working with high risk families is required
· Certification in parenting groups an asset (Triple P, Right from the Start, Incredible Years, Circle of Security, Active Parenting, etc.)
· Valid driver’s license
· No relevant criminal history
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
· Solid knowledge of child development (0-12 years), age appropriate parent-child interaction, positive discipline techniques, parenting support and education
· Knowledge of resources available to families in need in the Surrey area
· Experience with the use of observation, modeling, coaching, intervention and behavioural techniques with regards to parenting skills
· Experience working with high risk families with histories of trauma, substance misuse, violence, mental health and other barriers to services
· Knowledge of MCFD’s child protection policies
· Experience with report writing based on observations
· Experience assessing parenting skills and abilities and service plan development
· Experience with accreditation (preferably CARF)
· Organizational and time management skills
· Consulting and problem solving skills
· Ability to work independently as well as be a strong team player
