We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to join a non-profit organization in Markham, Ontario on a Contract basis. This position is ideal for someone who can step into a fast-moving finance environment, manage high-volume transactional work with precision, and become productive quickly. The successful candidate will focus primarily on accounts payable activities while also assisting with select accounts receivable and administrative finance tasks as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Process vendor invoices accurately and enter financial data into the appropriate accounting systems in a timely manner.
- Review and assign proper general ledger codes to payable transactions across multiple entities.
- Prepare, post, and track vendor payments while ensuring supporting documentation is complete and compliant.
- Perform account reconciliations to identify discrepancies, resolve issues, and maintain accurate financial records.
- Provide occasional support for accounts receivable activities when business needs require additional assistance.
- Assist with routine finance and administrative duties that support the day-to-day operation of the accounting team.
- Work independently after initial onboarding while maintaining accuracy, organization, and consistent follow-through.
- Contribute effectively in a fast-paced onsite setting where deadlines and changing priorities must be managed efficiently.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounts payable or a closely related transactional accounting role.
- Demonstrated ability to code invoices, process payments, and manage vendor-related transactions with a high level of accuracy.
- Hands-on experience using accounting software and ERP platforms, including exposure to systems such as Navision or Sage 300.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable procedures, reconciliations, and basic accounting principles.
- Comfortable supporting multiple companies or entities within a shared finance environment.
- Able to work onsite in Markham, Ontario and contribute with limited supervision after initial training.
- Detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of handling a high volume of work within tight timelines.
