We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer who is excited to contribute to an innovative and collaborative environment driven by technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and supporting embedded software and firmware systems used in industrial equipment, shop tooling, and field-deployed systems.
You will work closely with electrical, mechanical, and fabrication teams to design, implement, and maintain robust control and communication systems that interface directly with custom-built hardware.
This is a hands-on engineering role where software meets real-world machinery, requiring strong problem-solving skills, reliability-focused design thinking, and the ability to support systems from development through to field deployment.
This role focuses on embedded software and device-level control systems. Electrical power system design, distribution, and installation oversight are handled by the Electrical Engineering and field teams.

What You’ll Be Doing
· Develop embedded C/C++ firmware for industrial equipment, sensors, test systems, and custom hardware
· Design and implement real-time software systems using interrupt-driven and RTOS-based architectures (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr, Embedded Linux)
· Implement and maintain industrial communication protocols including Modbus TCP/RTU, CAN/CANOpen, and serial communication (RS-485)
· Develop reliable data structures and communication flows for HMIs, control systems, and data logging platforms
· Build diagnostics, watchdogs, logging systems, and failsafe mechanisms to ensure system reliability and safety
· Support hardware bring-up, testing, and debugging using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, and serial interfaces
· Participate in code reviews, unit testing, static analysis, and CI/CD processes
· Support system deployment, commissioning, and field troubleshooting activities as required
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
· 5–10+ years of professional experience in embedded software development (C/C++)
· Strong experience with real-time systems, interrupts, and embedded architecture design
· Experience with industrial communication protocols (Modbus TCP/RTU, CAN/CANOpen, RS-485)
· Experience working with embedded or industrial hardware systems
· Software development best practices
· Understanding of system reliability, debugging, and field support processes
· Valid driver’s license
· Fluent in English
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with embedded hardware design tools such as Altium or equivalent
· Exposure to PLCs, VFDs, remote I/O, or industrial sensor networks
· SCADA system experience (e.g., EcoStruxure, Plant SCADA, Ignition, or equivalent)
· Python or scripting experience for tooling or automation
· Familiarity with time-series data systems or industrial data logging
· Experience with Schneider Electric EcoStruxure/Control Expert toolchains
· Exposure to functional safety concepts (SIL, fail-safe system design)
Work Environment
· Shop-based position located in Acheson, AB
· Primary work performed in a controlled fabrication, maintenance, and manufacturing environment
· Occasional site work required to support installation, commissioning, or troubleshooting activities
· Monday to Friday position with occasional overtime as required
· Candidates must be local to the Edmonton/Acheson area, as travel assistance, living out allowance, and relocation support are not available at this time
