Our Deputy Chief Finance Office is looking for a Financial Accountant for Payments (PRESTO) - Financial Accounting Team. PRESTO is an electronic fare system that allows transit users in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) and Ottawa to use a Smart Card to move between and within transit systems. PRESTO makes transit travel easier and more convenient. PRESTO Controllership is adding a finance professional to its team to provide strategic support in financial accounting and reporting.
This role is an in‑office position based at our 20 Bay Street location. Our team is highly collaborative, and much of our work benefits from in‑person co‑creation, relationship‑building, and hands‑on partnership with leaders across the organization.
What will I be doing?
- Prepare, track, and monitor client and vendor charges, complete monthly accruals, and journal entries.
- Perform general ledger reconciliations and month-end close activities.
- Respond to financial inquiries from internal stakeholders and external parties including MTO or Transit Agencies by gathering and interpreting data.
- Produce report packages including monthly Income Statement that support financial planning, analysis, budgets, forecasts.
- Provide analysis and interpretation of operating results that supports understanding of spends.
- Perform financial analyses in support of business operations using proper accounting treatment.
- Examine financial records and reports to check for accuracy and integrity of financial data including capitalization reviews.
- Actively participate in the development and creation of analytical reports, dashboards, KPIs and presentations to senior management that impact decision making.
- Develop, recommends, and coordinate as a business partner to implement proper controls to ensure compliance with company accounting and financial policies, directives, and regulations.
- Support ad-hoc projects and analyses including creation of reports/tools to drive internal process improvements, develop process manuals, and cross training.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a university degree in Business Administration or related field (Accounting, Management, Finance, Math, Commerce) – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
- Chartered Professional Accountant or other accounting designation a strong asset.
- Demonstrated related experience in financial administration, accounting, and analysis.
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Solid experience with accounting systems and processes, financial reporting and analyses.
- Proficient with financial management automated tools to develop and implement financial controls and procedures.
- Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards is an asset.
- An analytical mindset and the drive to continuously improve business processes and the control environment for good governance.
- Deadline-Oriented and ability to manage time constraints to deliver on month deliverables.
- A keen eye for details and desire to probe further into data to uncover the root cause.
- Good interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills; able to develop strong working relationships with the Finance team, business support and commercial teams.
- Commercial and business awareness and interest in the technology and transit authority public sector is an asset.
