Woodstock Home Hardware Building Centre is seeking a customer-focused and knowledgeable Building Materials Sales Associate to join our team. This specialized sales position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service both in-store and over the phone by utilizing product knowledge, sales skills, and an understanding of building materials and construction products to help customers find the right solutions for their projects.
The ideal candidate is service-oriented, organized, and eager to expand their product knowledge while contributing to a positive team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional and courteous customer service to customers in-store and over the telephone.
- Assist customers in identifying and selecting the appropriate building materials, tools, and related products for their projects.
- Process customer purchases, special orders, and account holder orders accurately and efficiently.
- Answer incoming phone calls, respond to customer inquiries, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Pick and prepare customer orders from both the sales floor and warehouse areas.
- Maintain product displays, stock levels, and overall department appearance.
- Open and close the store following established procedures and security protocols.
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure a positive customer experience and efficient store operations.
- Continually develop product knowledge to better serve customers and support sales growth.
Qualifications & Core Competencies
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Knowledge of building materials, construction products, and tools is required.
- Previous retail sales and customer service experience is considered a strong asset.
- Excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
- Sales-oriented mindset with a commitment to providing solutions and exceptional customer service.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, professional, and detail-oriented.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Comfortable retrieving products from shelving, warehouse storage areas, and customer pickup locations.
