POSITION SUMMARY
The main purpose of the UG Trainer is to act as a subject matter expert on Underground mining training standards and to provide training to and accredit UG personnel on mining equipment and processes ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory authorities.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITY
Safety / Environment
- Ensure safe work systems/procedures are always practised and adhered to ensuring duties are performed in a manner that minimises risk to self, employees, and contractors.
- Always maintain exemplary standard of housekeeping, safe work, incident/accident reporting & active involvement in safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
- Abide by and proactively comply with Company policies, procedures, guidelines, and systems, as well as all relevant legislation.
- Understand and engage with site Emergency evacuation procedures.
- Act as a safety resource for the Underground operations staff.

Initiate and provide input into company directives in collaboration with the Site Management team.

Technical & Role Accountabilities
- Conduct underground training which includes, theoretical classroom-based training and in-field practical training specific to the underground operations
- Conduct theoretical and practical assessments to validate employee knowledge, skills, and competency
- Ensure all MTCU files are complete according to Ministry of Labour standards
- Ensure all employees have been properly signed off for equipment they are operating
- Maintain employee training records
- Perform job observations as required and as follow-up to recent training efforts
- Provide and / or coordinate follow-up training for employees
- Prepare and provide training reports where required.
- Prepare and disseminate daily safety report where required
- Create, review and update training related documents

Undertake other duties as lawfully instructed
Experience & Qualifications
- Technical diploma or degree
- “Train the Trainer” accreditation
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a mine production environment.
Self-starter who can anticipate needs and work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent inter-personal skills together with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort
- Ability to work with all levels of the organization
- Ability to chair meetings, lead training sessions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required
Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
