CGI is seeking a Senior Java Developer to join our consulting delivery teams in the Greater Toronto Area. In this role, you will design, develop, modernize, integrate, and support enterprise grade applications for leading organizations across sectors such as financial services, insurance, government, and telecommunications. Working within Agile teams, you will build cloud native, full stack solutions — from Spring Boot microservices and Kafka based event streaming to modern Angular or React front ends — deployed on Azure and AWS.
This is a hands on senior engineering position with genuine consulting impact. Beyond writing high quality code, you will help shape technical direction, contribute to application modernization roadmaps, mentor developers, and engage directly with client stakeholders to turn complex business needs into secure, scalable, production grade software.
Your future duties and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
. Design, develop, test, and support enterprise grade applications built on Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.
. Build microservices and REST APIs following API first practices, including contract design, versioning, and documentation.
. Develop event driven integrations and streaming solutions using Kafka or comparable platforms.
. Deliver full stack features, creating modern, responsive front ends in Angular or React with TypeScript.
. Contribute to the modernization of legacy systems toward cloud native architectures on Azure or AWS.
. Design efficient data access layers using JPA / Hibernate across SQL and NoSQL data stores.
. Package and deploy applications with Docker and Kubernetes, and support container platform operations.
. Automate build, test, and release workflows through CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
. Instrument services for observability and participate in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and production support.
. Embed secure coding, scalability, and resilience practices throughout the development lifecycle.
. Collaborate daily with architects, product owners, business analysts, QA specialists, and DevOps engineers in Agile / Scrum teams.
. Mentor intermediate and junior developers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
. Communicate designs, estimates, trade offs, and progress clearly to technical and non technical stakeholders in a client facing environment.
