About the Opportunity
Pharmasave Pharmacy in Niagara Falls is seeking a dedicated and experienced Pharmacist to join our team as an Independent Contractor. This part-time position offers regular shifts of one to three days per week in a collaborative, patient-focused community pharmacy connected to a busy medical clinic.
The successful candidate will be committed to providing exceptional pharmaceutical care, ensuring the safe and effective use of medications, and working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes. Experience in acute, chronic, and addiction medication management is considered a strong asset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review, interpret, and verify medication orders to ensure the accuracy, appropriateness, and safety of medication therapy.
- Prepare, dispense, validate, and control medications (including blister packs) accurately and in compliance with established protocols, regulations, and safety standards.
- Provide patient counseling and education on medication use, side effects, interactions, and medication reviews, while addressing patient questions and building positive relationships.
- Monitor medication therapy outcomes and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to optimize treatment, resolve medication-related issues, and provide pharmaceutical expertise.
- Perform medication reconciliation for patients transitioning between care settings.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records, including medication profiles, interventions, follow-up notes, and documentation of communications and clinical decisions.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, professional, and safety standards governing pharmacy practice.
- Manage pharmacy inventory and medication supplies to ensure adequate stock levels and cost-effective operations.
- Identify opportunities to improve pharmacy services and business performance, including patient care initiatives and appropriate sales opportunities.
- Perform other pharmacy-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed as a Part A Pharmacist with the Ontario College of Pharmacists and a member in good standing.
- Minimum one (1) year of community pharmacy experience.
- Strong knowledge of acute, chronic, and addiction medication management.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient counselling skills.
- Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional customer service and building trust-based patient relationships.
- Excellent critical thinking, clinical judgement, and problem-solving skills with the ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining current knowledge of legislation, therapeutic guidelines, and professional standards.
- Proficient computer skills, including experience with KROLL paperless workflow.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, patient-centred practice environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Multilingual abilities.
- Experience with pharmaceutical compounding.
- Experience providing Opioid Agonist Therapy (Methadone/Suboxone) services.
Work Schedule
Current pharmacy hours are:
- Monday to Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The pharmacy also provides coverage beyond regular business hours to support frequent after-hours clinics.
Please note that pharmacy operating hours may change to meet operational and patient care needs. Future schedules may include extended weekday hours and/or Sunday operations. Candidates should be willing to work a flexible schedule based on the pharmacy's evolving service requirements.
Minimum availability of 9 hours/shift is a must.
Expected commitment is one to three shifts per week, depending on operational requirements.
This position is fully on-site. Remote work is not available.
Pay: $60.00-$65.00 per hour
