The Role:
We’re hiring a Junior Design Manager to support our design, production, and project flow. This role blends CAD work, shop coordination, and on-site involvement. You’ll be responsible for producing shop drawings, helping manage the fabrication of items through the shop, and visiting job sites to verify measurements and site conditions.
Since we’re a small team, this role requires flexibility and a willingness to wear multiple hats.
Key Responsibilities
- Create accurate shop drawings using SolidWorks (primary software)
- Use AutoCAD as needed for breaking down designs into fabrication
- Prepare drawings that are practical, buildable, and aligned with shop capabilities
- Work closely with the shop floor to clarify details and answer questions
- Track and help manage projects through fabrication and production
- Visit job sites to take field measurements and confirm site conditions
- Coordinate with installers, project managers, and fabricators to resolve issues
- Revise drawings and assist with as-built documentation when required
Required Qualifications
- Solid working knowledge of SolidWorks
- Basic to intermediate experience with AutoCAD
- Experience producing shop drawings
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable splitting time between office, shop, and job sites
- Valid driver’s license
- Must live within reasonable driving distance of Vaughan, Ontario
Preferred / Major Assets
- Background in millwork, cabinetry, or custom fabrication
- Degree or diploma in Industrial Design
- Experience with hospitality or commercial construction projects
- Familiarity with materials, joinery, and fabrication methods
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings
