Moodys Private Client is a boutique private client law firm based in Calgary. Our Trusts & Estates team, focused exclusively on estate planning, estate administration, and estate litigation, is seeking a Trust & Estates Paralegal - maternity leave coverage. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently and in a team environment, supporting lawyers in a collaborative, specialized practice.
Duties
- Draft and prepare Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, and Personal Directives.
- Assist with estate administration, including preparation of Applications for Grants of Probate and Grants of Administration and other Surrogate Court filings.
- Communicate with executors, beneficiaries, financial institutions, and other professionals.
- Manage complex estate files, maintain deadlines, and coordinate document execution.
- Support lawyers in estate litigation matters, draft court documents, coordinate documents for filing and filing documents in Court filing system
- Prepare correspondence and assist with general file management.
- Effectively and efficiently communicates with clients and other parties, including drafting letters, emails, making phone calls, etc.
- Schedule client meetings and phone calls and maintain multiple lawyer calendars.
- Handles a high volume of emails, reviewing, handling, and e-filing the same.
- Organizes and maintains a paper filing system (including trial binders, etc.), as well as an online filing system through a document management program.
- Maintains detailed to-do list/task list, file status list, and manages reminders for themselves and for the lawyers on the team.
- Organizes and compiles documents for client meetings, etc.
- Switches between tasks and maintain professionalism and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in wills & estates in a law firm
- Paralegal or Legal Assistant diploma (or equivalent experience)
- Experience with Alberta probate and estate administration processes
- Experience with Alberta Surrogate and Civil litigation filing processes
- Strong organizational, communication, and client service skills
- Ability to manage multiple files and deadlines
- Proactiveness, takes initiative and anticipates the group and client needs.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 14 months
Pay: $60,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
