Position Overview
We are seeking a Electrical Controls Designer to join our team in Burlington, Ontario. This role supports the design and implementation of automation and electrical technologies while providing technical support to the mechanical engineering, service, and sales teams. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and subcontractors to help deliver projects on time, within budget, and to customer expectations.
This position is ideal for a motivated individual who enjoys problem-solving, continuous learning, and working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment with opportunities for growth and advancement.
What You’ll Do
Automation Tasks
· Develop software and electrical schematics.
· Develop specifications to match customer requirements, including:
o Hardware Specifications
o Interface/Communication Specifications
o Functional Specifications
o Single Line Drawings
· Continuously improve current processes and software.
· Design, write, implement, and document PLC software and code for HMIs and PLCs to be used as standard code across all machines.
· Assist in the development of advanced, user-friendly HMI screens.
· Produce complete electrical BOMs for purchasing.
· Test equipment prior to release from the shop floor.
Mechanical Engineering Support
· Provide comments and feedback during design review meetings.
· Assist with cable routing, sensor locations, IO block locations, and specifications.
· Assist in the development of user manuals related to the electrical and functional aspects of machinery.
Service Support
· Support the service department with day-to-day customer questions.
· Provide remote support during commissioning activities.
· Provide support during customer troubleshooting activities.
Sales Support
· Support the sales team by providing timely and accurate estimates for upcharges or design changes.
· Provide feedback when customer requirements or specifications require an upcharge.
What We’re Looking For
· 2–6 years’ experience in electrical design.
· Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a similar program.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
· Experience using AutoCAD Electrical and/or EPLAN.
· Experience with PLC programming, with Siemens and Allen Bradley preferred.
· Exposure to electrical codes and standards, including UL and CSA, is considered an asset.
· AutoCAD Electrical / EPlan software
· PLC programming – Studio5000, TIA Portal, Simatic Manager
· HMI design (FT View Studio, Tia Portal, winCC flex)
· Network design experience (ethernet/profinet/profibus)

Work Details
· Work in both office and shop floor environments while maintaining a clean and organized workstation.
· Ability to sit for extended periods, with regular movement throughout the office and shop floor as needed.
· Standard office hours are generally 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with flexible scheduling available around core working hours of 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
· Employees are provided with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
· Occasional overtime may be required based on project and business needs.
· Business casual dress code.
