Position Overview
The Café Supervisor plays a key leadership role in overseeing the daily operations of Buffalo Stone Café. This position is responsible for ensuring consistent, high-quality guest service, supporting effective coordination between front-of-house and back-of-house teams, and leading service execution throughout the café as well as catered meetings and events in the Lakeside Room, Field Station, and Alloway Reception Centre. The Café Supervisor supports inventory management, menu development and daily features, staff training, and event transitions to ensure seamless operations and exceptional guest experiences seven days a week.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Supervise and coordinate daily café operations, including staff scheduling, opening/closing duties, and service flow.
- Maintain quality guest experiences and uphold Spruce Catering’s service standards.
- Oversee cash handling, daily deposits, and POS accuracy.
- Manage set-up and service coordination for Lakeside Room, Field Station and Alloway Reception Centre.
- Ensure cleanliness, safety, and adherence to food handling and workplace safety standards.
- Assist in menu development and communicate daily specials or seasonal changes to staff and guests.
- Monitor inventory and assist with ordering, receiving, and stock rotation.
Leadership & Staff Support
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and clear direction to café staff and the Weekend Supervisor.
- Conduct briefings, assign tasks, and ensure staff are well-informed about menu items, service expectations, and daily priorities.
- Support onboarding and ongoing training of café staff, ensuring consistent service quality and efficiency.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work culture that aligns with Diversity Food Services’ values of sustainability, equity, and community impact.
Collaboration & Communication
- Act as the primary daytime contact for on-site communication between kitchen, events, and operations teams.
- Work closely with the Catering & Banquet Manager to support on-site logistics and execution of catered events.
- Communicate maintenance, equipment, or supply needs to leadership promptly.
- Liaise with FortWhyte Alive staff to coordinate café operations around site activities and visitor needs.
Guest Service & Quality Control
- Resolve guest concerns in a professional, solutions-focused manner.
- Ensure service presentation, cleanliness, and food quality meet Spruce Catering standards.
- Maintain café ambiance and readiness for guests throughout the day.
- Gather feedback from guests and relay opportunities for improvement to management.
Administrative & Other Duties
- Assist with reporting, inventory counts, and daily sales reconciliation.
- Participate in café meetings, leadership discussions, and special projects.
- Support event and weekend operations as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of Buffalo Stone Café and Diversity Food Services.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in hospitality, café, or restaurant environments.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a small team in a fast-paced, service-oriented setting.
- Basic knowledge of food safety, inventory management, and café operations.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours during event periods.
- Commitment to sustainability, inclusivity, and ethical food service practices
- Hold valid Drivers License, Smart Choices certification and Food Handlers certification.
Pay: $18.50 per hour
