Project Engineer
Proactive Power and Automation Ltd. (PPA) is subsidiary of Gas Liquids Engineering Ltd. (GLE), a well-established, privately-owned engineering firm providing EPCM services to the energy industry. Proactive Power focuses on power generation, high voltage design and electrical distribution. Our services include project management, engineering, drafting and design, procurement, construction management and regulatory services.
We are seeking a Project Engineer to work on a variety of challenging and innovative projects in power generation, data center power, substations, transmission lines, carbon capture, and hydrocarbon processing and related infrastructure.
As a member of our project team your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the design and development of power generation, data center power, electrical grid interconnection, carbon sequestration, substation, and other projects.
- Coordinate the preparation of multidisciplinary engineering deliverables and drawings, including but not limited to DBMs, plot plans, P&IDs, PFDs, 3D models, and SLDs.
- Interface with clients, vendors, and internal teams to support project execution and delivery.
- Act as a technical point of contact, coordinating across engineering and drafting disciplines.
- Prepare and maintain progress reports, technical documentation, and project tracking tools.
- Expedite engineering deliverables to meet project milestones.
- Participate in plant design, layout development, and equipment sizing and specification.
- Coordinate equipment specification, vendor engagement, and procurement activities.
- Support the tendering process, including RFP preparation and technical and commercial bid evaluations.
- Develop project schedules and cost estimates (with or without dedicated schedulers/estimators).
- Lead meetings, record minutes, track action items while maintaining project documentation and reporting.
- Execute projects of varying scales, ensuring effective coordination across disciplines.
- Contribute to proposal development alongside Project Managers and Business Development teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- P.Eng. designation in good standing with a Canadian engineering regulator (e.g., APEGA, EGBC, APEGS, or EGMB) is considered an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of EPCM experience or applicable Project Management and/or Project Engineering experience.
- Experience with utility system operators and providers (e.g., AESO, SaskPower).
- Prior experience with projects involving thermal power generation, and grid interconnection.
- Experience with data centers, transmission systems, renewable power generation, hydrogen, and carbon capture and sequestration is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of project controls, change management processes, and procurement procedures.
- Understanding of regulatory processes for power generation projects in Western Canada and North America.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication (written and verbal), and technical skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Occasional travel to project sites may be required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
Pay is commensurate with experience.
