Position Summary:
Ferrell’s Custom Stoneshop fabricates masonry veneers, custom caps & coping, profiled elements, sandblasted address stones and many other items to suit our client’s needs.
We are currently looking for someone experienced working in a custom stoneshop. The position requires a flexible individual who can thrive in an ever-changing shop where tasks change day to day.
Basic required skills include using hand tools, chisels, grinders and air tools to rock, sand, drip, cut and modify stone to suite shop tickets provided.
Experience / familiarity with various stone cutting machinery (bridge saws, block saws, CNC machines and sandblasting equipment) is an asset.
A keen eye for detail, the ability to work in a factory environment, and work as a team to complete our orders is key to success here.
Applicants may be considered who are not familiar with this line of work but have experience using a variety of tools (hammer, chisel, grinders, belt sanders, air tools).
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Check in daily with the Shop Manager for work assignments & project status
· Maintain a clean, safe & tidy work environment
· Basic tool & machine maintenance to ensure they are in clean & safe working order
· Basic admin: record material used, work completed, daily logs, job travelers etc.
· Use a variety of hand tools including air hammers, chisels, hammers, grinders, belt sanders and sanding pads to transform masonry items to suit
· Read shop tickets & order instructions and carry out the work required within set tolerances
· Use computer to design and print sandblasting templates
· Work alone or as a team to complete assignments
· Quality control checks through the various stages of production
· Handle, transport and package masonry elements safe and structurally sound
· Interact respectfully, build relationships, and demonstrate a high level of cooperation
· Maintain a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
· Operate stone machines including block saw, bridge saw, sandblaster & veneer machines
· Load & unload material onto CNC machine table
· Assist with material handling using cranes and forklifts and manual labour
· Skid / package completed orders to company standards
· Follow instructions, maintain timelines and execute effective time management
· Adhere to all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, appropriate attire, grooming and attendance
· Adhere to all safety rules and requirements
· Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) per company policy
· Performing other duties as needed to ensure branch and company success
Position Qualifications:
Experience:
· Stone Finishing Experience (2 – 3 years minimum) with the ability to:
o Apply a rocked edge to stone in thicknesses up to 6”
o Apply sanded finish using right-angled grinders
o Bevel / chamfer
o Apply drip edge using right-angled grinder
o Air Hammer experience to do interior profile returns and basic modifications to CNC cut material
o Hand Sanding
· Hand & power tool experience (2 – 3 years minimum)
· Forklift driving
· Basic mechanical aptitude
· Fluent in reading & writing in English
· Heavy lifting required
· Asset Experience (not required but is an asset):
o Sandblasting
o Block-Saw operation
o Bridge Saw operation
o Veneer Saw operation
o CAD Skills
o Advanced stone-carving skills
Education:
· Minimum level of education
o High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
Knowledge and Skill:
· Knowledge of forklifts, masonry block saws, bridge saws and overhead cranes
· Basic Math skills required for accurate measurements & calculations
· Reading & understanding shop tickets & work orders to ensure accurate fabrication
· Forklift driving
