We are seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to support the ongoing maintenance and repair of our seven self-storage locations throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). This role is primarily responsible for preventative maintenance, repairs, and ensuring facilities remain in excellent operating condition, while assisting with cleaning and seasonal property maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance and repair needs.
- Complete preventative maintenance on buildings, equipment, gates, doors, locks, lighting, and other facility components.
- Perform general repairs including minor plumbing, drywall repair, painting, hardware replacement, and other handyman tasks.
- Troubleshoot maintenance issues and coordinate with external contractors when required.
- Assist with facility improvements and renovation projects.
- Perform routine cleaning and upkeep of interior and exterior areas to maintain professional facility standards.
- Assist with seasonal duties including lawn maintenance, snow removal, and salting.
- Maintain maintenance records and report larger repair requirements to management.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and company vehicles are maintained in safe working condition.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
- 2+ years of building maintenance, property maintenance, facilities maintenance, or general handyman experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Experience performing basic plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall, and carpentry repairs.
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests and work independently.
- Experience operating lawn maintenance and snow removal equipment is considered an big asset.
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive physical work both indoors and outdoors.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driver's abstract.
- Dependable, organized, and takes pride in maintaining high-quality facilities.
Pay: $17.50-$19.00 per hour
