Overview
An established Western Canadian construction contractor is seeking an experienced operations leader to oversee civil infrastructure projects across Southern Alberta. This leadership position is responsible for ensuring successful execution of municipal and private-sector construction projects while supporting business growth, operational performance, workforce development, and client satisfaction.
The successful candidate will provide strategic direction and operational oversight to project teams delivering earthworks, underground utility installations, site servicing, and municipal infrastructure projects. This role will work closely with senior leadership to improve project outcomes, strengthen client partnerships, and support the long-term growth of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Business Operations
- Lead regional construction operations and provide guidance to project delivery teams.
- Establish operational priorities and performance objectives aligned with organizational goals.
- Support business development efforts by building relationships with clients, consultants, municipalities, and industry stakeholders.
- Participate in strategic planning initiatives and identify opportunities for sustainable growth.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Assist in developing annual operational plans, budgets, and resource requirements.
Project Oversight
- Provide executive oversight for a portfolio of civil infrastructure and land development projects.
- Monitor project progress, cost performance, productivity, quality, and client satisfaction.
- Support project teams in resolving complex operational, contractual, and scheduling challenges.
- Ensure projects are executed in accordance with contractual requirements, project specifications, and regulatory obligations.
- Review project forecasts and financial reporting to identify risks and opportunities.
- Assist with major project planning, procurement strategies, and resource allocation.
Safety & Risk Management
- Champion a strong safety culture across all operations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, environmental requirements, and industry standards.
- Monitor operational risks and implement mitigation strategies to support successful project delivery.
- Support incident investigations and corrective action planning when required.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related discipline.
- Professional designation or industry certification considered an asset.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience within civil construction or infrastructure operations.
- Experience overseeing multiple project teams within a construction environment.
- Demonstrated success managing project portfolios, operational performance, and client relationships.
- Strong understanding of municipal infrastructure, underground construction, site development, and civil works.
- Proven ability to lead teams through growth, change, and operational challenges.
- Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Technical Knowledge
- Civil infrastructure construction methods and best practices.
- Project controls, budgeting, forecasting, and financial management.
- Contract administration and procurement processes.
- Construction scheduling and resource planning.
- Risk management and performance reporting.
- Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software platforms.
