The Opportunity
Big Brothers Big Sisters, Serving Grand Erie, Halton and Hamilton (BBBS) is seeking a social services professional to serve in the role of Case Manager, In-School Mentoring (ISM) to support its mentoring program delivery objectives. This position supports youth by creating, monitoring and supporting mentoring relationships between adult volunteer mentors and youth (mentees), who have been identified by the school as a young person who would benefit from a mentoring relationship. Reporting to the Manager of 1:1 Programs, this role contributes significantly to the organization’s mission of providing life-changing mentoring programs that ignite the power and potential of all young people.
Location & Details
Consistent with funder expectations and the nature of the role, the successful candidate will reside in Brantford or Brant County. The office is located in Brantford; however, there may be some instances where the candidate may be expected to work out of either the Hamilton or Burlington office. The ISM program will run in Brantford, Brant County, Haldimand County, Norfolk County and city of Hamilton. There will be frequent travel between the communities, with the occasional commute to the Halton community. This position is a hybrid with two in-office days and three work from home days per week.
Duties
- Communicate with school champions to identify suitable youth for the ISM program
- Provide program information and intake documentation to be completed by the school and parent
- Participate in Mentor training for participating volunteers
- Deliver Child Safety training to participating youth
- Create and maintain files for the youth, volunteers and matches on our Microsoft Dynamics Service Delivery Platform (SDP)
- Conduct pre-post evaluation with match participants to identify and quantify program impact and outcomes
- Ensure contact occurs with program participants at intervals outlined by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada
- Understand and comply with all National Standards as outlined by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada
- Support placement students (SSW, BSW and CYC programs) from post-secondary institutions who contribute towards the success of the program
- Facilitate in-person match meetings at the school with the mentee, mentor, and school personnel
- Create and distribute program bins to participating schools, and collect/replenish bins at the end of the school year
- Collaborate with the Lead, Volunteer Recruitment & Intake to support area volunteer recruitment initiatives
- Participate in staff meetings, individual supervision meetings and program-specific meetings
- Support other departments, as necessary
Skills & Background
- Social services professional with a minimum 2-year degree/diploma in a related field
- Strong communicator and willing collaborator
- Engaging personality who can establish meaningful relationships with school contacts and volunteers to create growth opportunities for young people
- Strong case management experience with demonstrated ability to handle complex client situations
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook for data entry, documentation, and correspondence
- Effective organizational skills with attention to detail in record keeping and reporting
- Adept at interviewing clients with sensitivity and professionalism
- Strong time management skills to efficiently handle multiple cases simultaneously
- Experience in training & development initiatives within social services or related fields
Required
- A clear vulnerable sector police check (VSC) naming Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton and Hamilton as the employer
- A minimum 2-year degree/diploma in the social service sector or related field
- Access to a reliable vehicle
