POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accounting Assistant is responsible for supporting the organization's day-to-day accounting operations, with primary accountability for accounts payable, vendor management, cost accounting, prepaid expenses, capital assets, and financial reporting.
Working closely with the Controller and other departments, the Accounting Assistant performs account reconciliations, maintains costing data within the ERP system, prepares financial reports, and provides analytical support to improve financial accuracy and operational efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process accounts payable invoices and prepare cheque/EFT payment runs.
- Maintain vendor records, banking information, and resolve vendor inquiries.
- Assign General Ledger coding, assist with account reconciliations, and support monthly financial reporting.
- Maintain standard costing information, analyze price variances, and update ERP costing data.
- Track prepaid expenses and capital assets, including additions, disposals, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with financial reporting and month-end/year-end close activities, including inventory, accruals, and data uploads.
- Prepare documentation and provide support for annual audits.
- Provide backup support to the Controller, including bank reconciliations, and perform other accounting and administrative duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration.
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in an accounting or accounts payable role, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with ERP/accounting software.
- Experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel (Power Query, PivotTables, advanced formulas, data analysis, reporting, and automation).
- Strong understanding of accounts payable processes and accounting.
- Knowledge of standard costing.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Pay: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
