JOB DESCRIPTION
The Red Seal Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of heavy equipment and diamond drilling rigs used in active mining and drilling operations. This role ensures equipment availability and uptime by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting breakdowns, and completing repairs in a timely manner. The Mechanic may travel between drill sites and is expected to work independently in a remote camp environment. This role supports maintenance activity tracking and parts inventory reporting.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, haul trucks, and diamond drill rigs.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues using technical knowledge and diagnostic tools.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, parts usage, and repair work performed.
- Coordinate with operators, drillers, and site leadership to prioritize equipment repairs and minimize downtime.
- Travel between drill sites as needed to provide maintenance support (vehicle and fuel provided by Rally Drilling).
- Manage parts inventory on-site and communicate replenishment needs to the operations lead.
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with OEM specifications, safety standards, and site SOPs.
- Support equipment mobilization and demobilization activities as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and shop environment.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Red Seal Certification (Heavy Duty Equipment Technician) or equivalent journeyman credential — REQUIRED.
- Minimum 3–5 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience, including diesel engines.
- Experience maintaining drilling rigs and/or heavy equipment in mining or resource extraction environments.
- Strong diagnostic and repair skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, 7 days/week in a remote camp environment on a rotation schedule.
- Strong commitment to safety — familiarity with LOTO, confined space, and hot work procedures.
- Valid driver's license.
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience maintaining diamond drilling rigs and associated support equipment.
- Prior experience in a remote mining, drilling, or resource camp environment.
- WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain).
- First Aid certification.
- Class 1 license.
- Experience in Newfoundland or Atlantic Canadian mining/construction environments.
Pay: $40.00-$48.00 per hour
