Overview
Nelmar Drywall is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Junior Drywall Estimator to join our team.
As a Junior Estimator (Residential) where you will directly impact the business.
The Drywall Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and detailed cost estimates for drywall and related interior finishing projects. This role requires analyzing blueprints, specifications, and project requirements to determine material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs while ensuring profitability and adherence to deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Bid Preparation & Analysis
- Review architectural plans, specifications, addendums, and RFIs to identify scope of work.
- Perform quantity take-offs for drywall, metal studs, insulation, acoustic ceilings, taping, and finishing.
- Calculate labor hours based on production rates, crew sizes, and project complexity.
Cost Estimating
- Source and negotiate pricing from suppliers for materials
- Obtain subcontractor quotes for specialty work
- Build comprehensive cost breakdowns including direct costs, indirect costs, overhead, and profit margins.
Bid Submission
- Compile professional bid packages with scope letters, exclusions, clarifications, and value engineering options.
- Submit bids via online platforms (e.g., Procore, BuildingConnected etc) by deadlines.
Post - Bid Activities
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and scope reviews with general contractors.
- Revise estimates based on addendums or scope changes.
- Assist in hand-off to project management upon award.
Database & Historical Data Management
- Maintain cost databases and historical project data for future estimating accuracy.
- Update unit costs quarterly based on market trends and supplier pricing.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma required; post-secondary construction related course with blueprint reading and specification comprehension, Quantity Surveying, or related field preferred.
Experience:
- Preferably, but not mandatory, 2–5+ years of drywall or interior construction estimating experience.
- Preferably, but not mandatory Residential project experience
Technical Skills:
- Familiarity in estimating software: On-Screen Takeoff (OST), PlanSwift, Bluebeam Revu, or WinBid and manual scaling methods.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Blueprint reading (architectural, structural, MEP coordination).
- Familiarity with Division 09 (Finishes).
