Overview
The Design and Print Technician support the Digital Production and Design Coordinator with a primary focus on print production and technical execution. This role is responsible for managing and completing all stages of the printing process, including file preparation, template preparation, print setup, equipment operation, quality control, and ongoing maintenance of printing equipment. While primarily print-driven the position also requires basic design support. The Design & Print Technician plays a key role in ensuring efficient workflows, consistent quality, high level of organizational skills, and timely delivery of high-quality printed materials.
Duties
- Operate and manage various printing machines, including digital, large-format, and specialty printers.
- Prepare files for printing, ensuring accurate color management, alignment, and resolution.
- Monitor print jobs to maintain quality and efficiency, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
- Maintain and control print templates to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with approved standards.
- Ability to create client-focused graphic designs that accurately reflect project specifications and branding guidelines. Amending those designs based on feedback.
- Skilled at managing prioritizing multiple projects within deadlines, with careful attention to project-specific standards and branding guidelines.
- Provide feedback on design and production processes to improve output quality and efficiency.
- Perform regular maintenance and calibration of printing equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues with printing machines.
- Assist in creating, editing, and refining designs for print products, ensuring alignment with project specifications and branding guideline, and adapt existing designs as needed.
- Collaborate with the Digital Production and Design Coordinator to develop innovative print materials.
- Adapt existing designs as needed.
- Ability to effectively react to change and undertake other tasks as assigned.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Maintain an inventory of printing supplies, including paper, ink, and other consumables.
- Ensure that products are produced consistently meeting or exceeding established criteria. This includes following established procedures, quality control checks, and the desire to satisfy customer expectations.
- Fulfill duties in a safe, responsible manner in keeping with plant safety guidelines, safe work practices, and applicable regulations. Wear required PPE and ensure it is appropriate to job at hand. Keep area tidy/free of hazards and ensure safe disposal of scrap and waste.
Qualifications
- A diploma or degree in Graphic Design, Print Technology or related field
- Experience in a design, printing, or production environment (preferred)
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Creative Cloud
- Familiar with digital printing
- Basic knowledge of file preparation and colour management for print production.
