About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a senior woman living in Amherstburg with her husband. She is hard of hearing and wears hearing aids, though she cannot use them during bathing. She communicates through a combination of hearing aids, basic sign language, and visual communication. She experiences depression, early-stage dementia, and vertigo, and often has her days and nights mixed up, sleeping frequently throughout the day. Her husband, who is 75, currently assists with her care but needs support.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with bathing and showering twice weekly (approximately 2-hour visits)
- Help with dressing and applying creams or lotions after bathing
- Provide mobility support and transfer assistance as needed
- Offer memory prompts and gentle redirection for cognitive support
- Light housekeeping including laundry and maintaining a hygienic bathroom and bedroom environment
- Communicate effectively using clear visual cues, facing the client directly, and speaking loudly when needed
- Demonstrate initiative in encouraging the client to get up for scheduled care, even when she is reluctant due to mixed sleep patterns
What We're Looking For:
- Experience working with clients who are hard of hearing or deaf, with basic ASL knowledge strongly preferred
- Ability to communicate clearly through visual methods and maintain face-to-face interaction
- Patient, calm demeanor with experience supporting clients with depression and early dementia
- Strong initiative and assertiveness to encourage participation in care routines
- Understanding of vertigo and fall risk management
- Reliable, consistent, and excellent communication with family members
- Respectful of client independence while providing necessary support
- Experience with personal care, bathing assistance, and mobility support
Schedule:
Flexible schedule with 2 visits per week, approximately 2 hours per visit. The family is open to establishing consistent days and times that work for the right caregiver. This is an initial arrangement with potential to increase hours as needs evolve.
The client lives directly on the waterfront in Amherstburg. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for a family seeking dedicated, skilled support during a challenging time.
