Position Summary:
The Seasonal Equipment / Spray Truck Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of equipment (primarily a tractor, mower, and spray truck) and providing services to support the delivery of Agricultural Service Board (ASB) programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform safe operations of equipment including but not limited to the following: tractor and pull type mower, spray truck, seeder, hydro-seeder, sprayer, disker, cultivator, bale shredder, forklift, ATV, UTV, and truck with trailer.
- Ensure equipment is well maintained, safe, and in good operating condition before work begins.
- Report any required equipment maintenance / repairs to the Agricultural Services Foreman, or in their absence, to the Shop Foreman.
- Conduct appropriate service / repair on equipment as directed by the Agricultural Services Foreman.
- Deliver the roadside 15ft mowing program.
- Participate in the delivery of the roadside spraying program.
- Conduct forage seeding on road construction project disturbances; participate in erosion control work on road construction borrow areas.
- Support the Agricultural Foreman in the coordination of the Agricultural Service Board (ASB) equipment rental program and rental equipment maintenance, as required.
- Participate in the design and administration of disease and pest surveys, as directed.
- Participate with Richardson Ground Squirrel control in hamlets and waste transfer sites, as required.
- Participate in pesticide applications.
- Ensure all work is performed safely and in a timely manner; ensure all work is performed in accordance with Wheatland County policies.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable Wheatland County policies and bylaws.
- Ensure compliance with OH&S including attendance at safety meetings, being properly trained in OH&S related topics, and ensuring work is completed in a safe manner.
- Appropriately, and in a timely manner complete administrative tasks (e.g., prepare reports and year-end summaries; ensure adequate records of programs are kept).
- Relate to and communicate with co-workers, management, external community and vendors sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries and complaints promptly and professionally.
- Perform tasks, consistent with the position, including special projects / assignments, as may be required on an ad hoc basis.
Qualifications:
- Combination of related education at the high school level; post-secondary training in agriculture would be an asset
- Agricultural experience would be an asset
- Equipment operation experience would be an asset
- Mechanical inclination would be an asset
- Valid Class 5 Alberta drivers’ licence
- Ability to obtain WHMIS and First Aid certification
- Effective organizational and time management skills
- Effective interpersonal communication skills
- Effective written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Working Conditions:
- (Approximately) April – November (Summer Season) – Monday to Friday; 50 hours/week;
- Overtime will be required

Pay: $21.69-$39.72 per hour
