Position Summary:
The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining the peace, safety, and security of all patrons and clients by enforcing property rules, conducting patrols, monitoring access control, and responding to incidents and emergencies. This role requires professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with and enforce property standards, rules, and regulations in a reasonable manner.
- Utilize tact and diplomacy when interacting with patrons, clients, and unauthorized individuals.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide First Aid, CPR, or AED support until medical professionals arrive.
- Maintain and enforce access control procedures and manage unauthorized persons in a fair and safe manner.
- Conduct periodic foot patrols of the property to ensure safety and security.
- Monitor CCTV surveillance systems and identify suspicious activity or concerns.
- Investigate incidents and occurrences and prepare detailed incident and occurrence reports.
- Maintain a detailed memo book and accurate documentation on all matters.
- De-escalate emergency and crisis situations using sound judgment and effective communication.
- Assist emergency responders and law enforcement personnel as required.
- Support access control, line management, customer service, and daily site operations as directed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid BC Security License.
- Valid OFA 1 Certificate.
- Minimum 1 year of security experience.
- Strong English communication skills (verbal + written).
- Ability to stand, walk, and conduct foot patrols for extended periods (8–12 hours).
- Ability to demonstrate professionalism and utilize tact and diplomacy on duty.
- Ability to respond to emergencies and make sound decisions in high-stress situations.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, dynamic environments (indoors and outdoors).
- Ability to take a proactive approach and retain operational information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Loss Prevention / Retail Security is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and observational awareness.
- Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team.
- Comfortable working in busy, highly populated environments.
- Open to feedback and continuous improvement.
