Job Description
Under the direction of the Access Coordinator:
- Adhere to the mission statement, philosophies, policies, and procedures of Dalhousie Place Supervised Access Centre
- Meet the requirements as stated in the Supervised Visitation Network and Ministry Best Practices
- Adhere to confidentiality guidelines as set out in Dalhousie Place Supervised Access Centre policies.
- Provide anecdotal information regarding clients to staff and volunteers as it becomes available to assist with case management decisions.
- Maintain accurate fee records if on desk duty.
- Supervise parents/visitors and children during access periods and exchanges.
- Ensure factual documentation of observations regarding access visits and monitored exchanges.
- Complete any other duties that arise or as directed by the Coordinator of Volunteers/Supervisor
Major Tasks / Responsibilities
- Supervise visits according to Court Orders or other relevant agreements
- Document supervised visits as required by The Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, Province of Ontario, and the procedures of Dalhousie Place Supervised Access Centre.
- Relay information between the child(ren)’s parents relevant to the child’s welfare at the commencement and conclusion of the supervised visit
Contacts
- Weekly contact (minimum) with Access Coordinator to maintain ongoing communication and to resolve any issues.
Qualifications
- Post graduate studies (Human Services) Grade 12 minimum or equivalent.
- Be empathetic and willing to adhere to the mission statement, philosophies, policies, and procedures of Dalhousie Place
- Be willing to be trained in all aspects of responsibility of the position, including on-going professional development.
- Completion of Ministry trainings as directed by Supervisor including AODA, Observation & Documentation, Child refusal and any other as directed
- An awareness of the necessity of confidentiality in dealing with all aspects of the organization. Breaking of this will lead to termination.
- Ability to clearly and accurately communicate factual information/data, including observing and recording subtle details of human interactions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle stress appropriately.
- Ability to volunteer in a busy, sometimes noisy, environment.
- Excellent interpersonal listening skills, especially accurate empathy
- Sensitivity and understanding of others’ feelings.
- Ability and willingness to work in a team environment.
- Ability to volunteer with persons of all age ranges (infancy to adult)
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work in a busy environment where there is noise and activity of visiting children and families.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Willingness to commit to ongoing professional development.
