The Downtown Community Safety Partnership (DCSP) is a made-in-Winnipeg approach to creating a safer and more welcoming downtown through the availability of cohesive support and non-emergency response to those in the community in need of support and assistance. The DCSP is committed to being a proactive downtown presence, providing prevention and outreach focused on long-term solutions, and to delivering a continuum of care that will help to effect significant change for individuals and the entire downtown community.
The CONNECT Safety Team Member will represent the Core Guiding and Service Principles of the DCSP and will be an integral role for the Downtown Community Safety Partnership, fostering a sense of safety by being present in downtown Winnipeg. They will be a welcoming, approachable, and trusted presence to those living, visiting, working, and learning downtown with a goal of developing relationships and improving communication.
The CONNECT Safety Team Member will engage and connect with individuals who require support and provide referrals as needed and will recognize matters that require a response from crisis intervention resources, police, fire, or paramedics. As part of a unified support team, the CONNECT Safety Team Member will deliver service with a goal of enhancing community safety through visibility and improving health and well-being of downtown community members. This position will have an opportunity for career advancement.

FTE: 1.00 (One Year Contract)
Anticipated Shift: Days/Evenings; May include weekends

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Initiate engagement, build relationships, and provide general assistance with the downtown community while facilitating positive interactions
- Follow established routes to be a highly recognizable and visible presence on foot or by vehicle
- Provide directions and general assistance while facilitating positive interactions
- Connect individuals to ensure they are aware of social services available in downtown Winnipeg and the surrounding area while understanding their needs
- Identify whether emergency support is required and be present to manage concerns of public/bystanders when first responders arrive on scene
- Identify needs of individuals who are vulnerable or at risk of crisis that may require; emergency support and/or referral to Mobile Assist Connect Team (MAC247) or Community Outreach Advocacy Resource (COAR) based on the circumstances
- Identify and explore areas in need of additional presence and assistance such as parking lots or alleyways, etc.
- Compile and maintain records and statistical data in a timely manner, for the purpose of producing reports using an internal database
- Provide referrals to the Enviro Team with the BIZ if there are graffiti or cleanliness concerns
- Conduct courtesy walks when needed
- Incorporate a supportive and positive teamwork mindset in execution of work
- Represent the Core Service Principles of DCSP in the community
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Related or prior work, life and/or volunteer experience
- Post-secondary education is considered an asset, however relevant training/experience will also be considered
- Excellent interpersonal, teambuilding, problem solving, and communication skills
- Ability to form professional relationships with various stakeholders, partners and community agencies
- Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with individuals of vulnerable and diverse populations
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique issues and barriers affecting vulnerable and diverse populations
- Physical ability to be on foot and carry out the duties of the position which includes standing for long periods of time and walking several kilometers daily in all weather conditions
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset Class 5 driver's license preferred
- This role is subject to a Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, Province of Manitoba Adult and Child Abuse Registry Check, to be produced prior to commencing employment
