Position Summary
The Food Services Supervisor (FSS) is responsible for overseeing and coordinating food service operations across three VIMHS housing facilities located in Nanaimo and Campbell River. Based primarily in Nanaimo, the FSS leads kitchen activities, develops and implements menus, manages ordering and inventory, and monitors expenditures to ensure alignment with established budgets, making recommendations as needed.
This position plays a key role in ensuring VIMHS food services meet nutritional and dietary requirements, food safety and licensing standards, and budgetary guidelines, while maintaining consistent, high-quality service delivery across sites. The role combines supervisory, administrative, and hands-on operational responsibilities consistent with the Food Services Supervisor role.
The FSS reports to the Director of Operations and the Site Manager.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment in compliance with licensed food premises regulations and Food Safe standards
- Plan and prepare meals for
- Support kitchen staff to work independently with clear direction, tools, and training.
- Develop and implement biannual 4-week rotating menus aligned with the Canadian Food Guide requirements
- Develop standardized recipes
- Manage ordering, receiving, and supplier discrepancies
- Monitor expenditures and support budget planning
- Evaluate meals and ensure quality and portion standards
- Responsible for food preparation and service.
- Maintain inventory control and food rotation practices.
- Ensure compliance with VIMHS and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other related duties as required.

- Performs the physical duties of the role, including lifting supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Familiarity and ability to use all commercial kitchen equipment safely and correctly.
Qualifications
- Two-year Food Service Supervision program plus two (2) years supervisory experience or equivalent.
- Red Seal (preferred)
- Food Safe Level 2
- First Aid with CPR-C
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle
Pay: $68,250.00-$70,000.00 per year
