The Central Peace Health Centre is a community-based medical clinic in Spirit River, Alberta (one hour north of Grande Prairie) consisting of four family physicians who also split their time and energy between AHS facilities (emergency department, hospital inpatients, and long-term care), and other professional duties in the North Zone. Our work is patient-centric, fast-paced, and rewarding.
The clinic's goal is to provide comprehensive primary health care services including health promotion, illness and injury prevention, and the diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury for our local community. In partnership with the Borealis Primary Care Network (PCN), the clinic also offers enhanced services in mental health counselling, social work and chronic disease management.

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) supports physicians and nursing staff in a family medicine office by providing direct patient care and assisting with clinical and administrative tasks. The PCA helps ensure efficient patient flow while delivering compassionate, high-quality care to patients of all ages.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
- Prepare all exam rooms identically and ensure they are clean, stocked, and organized
- Room patients and obtain vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, weight, height)
- Update patient demographics, and pharmacy in the electronic medical record (EMR) –
- Perform basic clinical tasks such, point-of-care testing (glucose), and urine collection and testing as requested by physicians.
- Preparation of procedure trays for injections, IUD and Nexplanon insertion and removals
- Clean and sterilize instruments according to infection control guidelines from CPSA.
- Documentation of sterilization processing and inventory of instruments as per CPSA standards
Administrative Support:
- Assist Medical Office Manager with inventory and ordering of medical and office supplies.
- Ordering and inventory of lab supplies including a control system for expiry dates
- Document patient care accurately in the EMR –
- Delivery of lab specimens to Hospital lab and mail pick up at lab
- Importing manually created documents in EMR (consent forms, medication refills, home blood pressure and blood sugar records, insurance)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- CNA, PCA certification, or Medical Office Assistant training preferred
- CPR/BLS certification required or willing to obtain
- Prior outpatient or primary care experience preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to work with pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced office environment
