Range of Pay: Group 14 - $41.00 to $50.31 per hour

Main Function: This position is responsible to the Manager of Clerk’s Services/Deputy City Clerk for the daily operation and development of the City/Community archives in support of quality customer service.
Characteristic Duties: Under the general supervision of the Manager of Clerk’s Services/Deputy City Clerk.

Develop, maintain, and operate the Municipal/Community archives as a public repository for archival records of historical significance.

Assume custodial responsibility for the permanent archival records of CGS, or from privately donated sources in accordance with established policies.

Perform the retention, cataloguing, safe keeping, preservation and restoration of the archival collection.

Ensure reasonable supervised access to the archival collection by CGS staff, researchers and scholars, members of the general public and other client users.

Conduct public relations programming to encourage public support for archival programs.

Develop and maintain relationships pertaining to heritage and archival collections with key stake holders in the community.

Perform public relations duties including tours, organizing displays and participating in community outreach events.

Develop and maintain partnerships with local interest groups.

Keep abreast of current and new trends in archival management and artifact preservation.

Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.

Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and Training:

Master’s degree in Archival Studies from a recognized University with Canadian accreditation.
Experience:

Two and one half (2½) years up to and including five (5) years directly related experience.
Other Requirements:

Knowledge of best practices within areas of responsibility.

Knowledge of archival services and operations.

Knowledge of archival automated systems.

Knowledge of computer software and administrative systems in a Windows environment (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet software, file transfer process, files maintenance, information input and retrieval, the Internet, etc.).

Demonstrate leadership abilities.

Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with the public in a courteous and effective manner.

Ability to demonstrate problem solving and research skills.

Ability to make public presentations.

Ability to demonstrate organizational skills and attention to detailed work.

Ability to demonstrate accurate keyboarding skills.

Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of French is an asset.

Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.

Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver’s licence, have an acceptable driving record, and personal insurance coverage.

This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.
Development opportunity range of pay: $37.89 to $46.37 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.
