Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Janitor to join our team. The ideal candidate will facilitate the health, safety, and well-being of students, staff, and the broader community at EIS. They perform routine cleaning, which includes: vacuuming, sweeping, mopping of floors and stairways, dusting and wiping furniture, disinfecting high-touch surfaces, washrooms, and kitchen areas, and replenishing supplies, among others. They may also assist with minor repairs to school equipment.
Start date: Ends of August 2026
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties are completed out of school hours, typically Tuesday evening and Thursday evening, or Friday or the weekend.
Janitorial duties are during the regular school year, with the exception of scheduled school holidays, breaks, and closures.
Tuesday evenings (4 hours) include, but are not limited to:
- Sweep/vacuum all rooms, including carpets, stairwells, hallways, and common areas
- And mop Cedar, Pine, all washrooms
- Clean & disinfect all high-touch surfaces, and washrooms
- Refill soap dispensers, paper towels, and toilet paper as needed
- Empty all garbage, recycling, and green waste
- Be satisfied that student and staff wellbeing is met
Thursday evenings (5 hours) include, but are not limited to:
- Sweep all rooms, stairwells and hallways
- And mop all classrooms, and all washrooms
- Clean all high-touch surfaces and washrooms
- Empty all garbage, recycling, and green waste
- Clean and dust low-touch surfaces (sills, baseboards, walls, fixtures, etc.)
- Be satisfied that student and staff wellbeing is met
Occasional deep cleaning
- Typically at the start of the school year, during outbreaks of illness, at the end of the school year, or for particular special events.
Certification and training:
- Employee must hold a current and valid WHMIS certificate, or be willing to attain one
- Have a current and valid Criminal Record Check, or be willing to attain one
- Agree to Evergreen Independent School’s Employment Manual, including confidentiality statements.
- Be knowledgeable about the water and electrical infrastructure
Supplies and Resources
Communicate with EIS Admin staff to ensure supplies are replenished in a timely manner, including:
- Paper towel
- Toilet paper
- Soap
- Cleaning agents (glass, floor, carpet cleaning solutions etc.)
- Cleaning resources (mops, brooms, cloths etc.)
- Stay within expected budget for annual supplies as communicated by the Finance Manager or Principal
- Plan for, and budget for, annual floor waxing rotation
Confidentiality and security
- Janitors may come across confidential and personal information belonging to students, staff, parents, or community members. They must respect all confidentiality, and, if needed, seek support from the school Principal if questions or concerns arise.
- Ensure all facilities are secured and alarmed at the end of shift. This includes keeping buildings, facilities and accesses secure while working.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $23.11-$25.81 per hour
