Position Summary
The Industrial Millwright is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and continuous improvement of production machinery and related equipment within a high-volume automotive metal stamping facility.
The facility operates mechanical and/or hydraulic stamping presses ranging in size up to 1,200 tons, together with ancillary equipment including coil handling systems, feeders, straighteners, conveyors, transfer systems, material handling equipment, compressors, pumps, and other plant equipment.
This is a hands-on maintenance position requiring strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, a commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to respond effectively to equipment breakdowns in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities Press & Production Equipment Maintenance
- Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on stamping presses up to 1,200 tons.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical failures involving press drive systems, clutches, brakes, flywheels, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, lubrication systems, and related components.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including cylinders, valves, pumps, regulators, hoses, and associated components.
- Maintain and repair ancillary stamping equipment including coil feed lines, servo and roll feeders, straighteners, uncoilers/decoilers, transfer systems, conveyors, scrap handling systems, material handling equipment, pumps, compressors, industrial ventilation, and other plant equipment.
- Assist with press and equipment alignments, leveling, installation, commissioning, and major repairs.
- Perform precision measurements and mechanical fitting as required.
Troubleshooting & Breakdown Response
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
- Systematically troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems and determine root causes.
- Work closely with electricians, tool and die personnel, production supervisors, press operators, and other maintenance personnel to resolve equipment issues.
- Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions and permanent improvements.
- Assist with emergency repairs while ensuring all work is performed safely and correctly.
Preventative Maintenance
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and repairs in accordance with the company's maintenance program.
- Inspect machinery for wear, damage, misalignment, vibration, lubrication issues, and other conditions that may lead to equipment failure.
- Replace bearings, seals, bushings, belts, chains, sprockets, couplings, and other mechanical components as required.
- Maintain lubrication systems and ensure equipment is properly lubricated.
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts used.
- Identify equipment requiring planned repair or replacement before failure occurs.
Equipment Installation & Fabrication
- Install, assemble, dismantle, move, and commission industrial machinery and equipment.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Perform basic fabrication, cutting, grinding, drilling, and welding as required.
- Assist with machinery modifications and continuous improvement projects.
- Support the installation and commissioning of new presses, feed lines, automation, and ancillary equipment.
Safety Responsibilities
- Perform all maintenance activities in accordance with company safety policies and applicable occupational health and safety requirements.
- Follow established lockout/tagout procedures before performing maintenance or repair work.
- Properly isolate and control mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and stored-energy hazards.
- Ensure machine guards and safety devices are properly reinstalled following maintenance activities.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, and potential hazards.
- Participate in safety initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
Qualifications
- Licensed Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A) in Ontario preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably within an automotive stamping, metal forming, or similar heavy manufacturing environment.
- Experience maintaining and repairing medium- to large-tonnage stamping presses is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical power transmission systems, bearings, gearboxes, clutches, brakes, shafts, couplings, and lubrication systems.
- Strong working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
- Welding and fabrication skills are considered an asset.
- Experience with preventative maintenance systems and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is an asset.
- Familiarity with automotive manufacturing environments and IATF 16949 requirements is considered an asset.

Physical Requirements
- Work around large industrial stamping presses and heavy machinery.
- Lift and handle tools, components, and equipment as required.
- Perform work while standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined or restricted areas.
- Work at heights when required and properly trained.
- Work in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, oils, lubricants, heat, and moving equipment.
- Safely use hand tools, power tools, lifting devices, and maintenance equipment.
Working Conditions
This position operates in a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment where equipment reliability and production uptime are critical. The Industrial Millwright may be required to work days, afternoons, or night shifts, as well as overtime and weekends when necessary to support production requirements, preventative maintenance, equipment installations, and major repairs.

Pay: $40.00-$45.00 per hour
