Nextreme is currently seeking a skilled Construction Estimator for our Yellowknife, NT and Nanaimo, BC offices. Specializing in construction, pre-fab/pre-eng. buildings, fabric covered buildings, and all other aspects of construction including steel works, the successful candidate will report to the Operations Officer.
The ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to take charge strategically. They should thrive in a collaborative environment, be flexible with last-minute or emergency client requests, and meet tight deadlines with the overall team.
Responsibilities include managing all project phases from initial inquiry to closeout. The candidate will lead a team of employees, overseeing all production phases, fostering a safety-conscious culture, promoting workforce engagement, and ensuring on-time delivery. Collaboration and communication with other Managers are crucial to achieving company goals and realizing the team's vision.
Job Duties:
- Identify and pursue prospective projects.
- Attend bid meetings and execute bid strategy.
- Analyze project proposals for budget and cost estimates.
- Analyze blueprints, plans, and specifications to understand project scope.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment etc.
- Manage tender processes, including administrative tasks.
- Schedule and oversee shop staff with office staff support.
- Liaise with clients, owners, consultants, engineers, and architects.
- Maintain accurate files of working documents for estimates.
- Estimate project timelines and scheduling requirements
- Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and risks
- Review design options and recommend cost-effective solutions.
- Determine bid strategies for company success.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of final estimate packages.
- Provide technical assistance in contract negotiations.
- Act as a safety leader, ensuring compliance with OH&S programs.
- Plan, coordinate, and assign work to site crews.
- Monitor projects for safe and timely execution.
- Demonstrate excellent leadership skills and provide actionable feedback.
- Prepare and submit bid proposals and tender documents.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, material costs, and regulations.
- Track project expenses and monitor budgets during construction.
- Uphold confidence with the company and team's best interests in mind.
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
- Minimum 10 years of estimating experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities.
- Familiarity with project management principles to align estimates with project timelines and schedules
- Experience with cost control and budgeting during project execution.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills for accurate cost calculations and budget analysis
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural plans, and technical drawings
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel and Word) - This is non-negotiable
- Safety-conscious, team-oriented, hardworking, and reliable.
