About the Role
The Shift Lead is responsible for overseeing operations, maintenance, planning, and efficiency across all production lines within a Lean Manufacturing environment. This role provides hands-on leadership to ensure optimal performance, product quality, and operational excellence.
The Shift Lead demonstrates a strong commitment to both food safety and employee safety, ensuring full compliance with all regulatory and company standards, including BRC, HACCP, GMP, Health & Safety, and BCOS (Business Conduct & Organizational Standards). This role plays a critical part in fostering a culture of accountability, safety-first thinking, and continuous improvement in daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
· Champion and embed a Safety-First culture, ensuring adherence to all health, food safety, and BCOS standards.
· Ensure the production of safe, high-quality food products by consistently applying GMP and food safety programs (BRC, HACCP).
· Communicate daily production schedules, targets, and priorities to the team.
· Set clear, achievable expectations and follow up to ensure accountability and execution.
· Lead by example in continuous improvement initiatives, encouraging team engagement and participation.
· Monitor daily performance of employees and work areas, ensuring accuracy and compliance (“check the checks”).
· Oversee and support completion of sanitation schedules and preventive maintenance (PMs) during shifts.
· Coordinate rework activities for damaged or non-conforming products.
· Maintain effective communication with all departments on production-related matters.
· Address employee performance concerns through coaching, counseling, and disciplinary action as required, in alignment with BCOS and company policies.
· Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure timely resolution of equipment issues.
· Assume responsibility for site security, safety, shipping, documentation, and overall operations during off-shifts.
· Perform manual production tasks and minor maintenance activities as needed.
· Execute and track daily and weekly maintenance plans.
· Create and manage purchase requisitions for production-related needs.
· Manage staffing requirements, including scheduling, vacation planning, and attendance tracking.
· Participate actively in Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) initiatives.
· Identify training gaps and support the development and delivery of training programs, including On-the-Job Training (OJT).
· Evaluate employee performance across all employment types (agency, probationary, and full-time).
· Conduct accident investigations and support WSIB return-to-work programs.
· Complete required reporting, including attendance, timesheets, and SAP transactions to maintain inventory accuracy.
· Provide hands-on leadership, coaching employees in a constructive, respectful, and performance-driven manner aligned with BCOS expectations.
· Ensure all activities consistently meet or exceed food safety and employee safety requirements.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
About You
· College Diploma or Associate Degree in Food Science, Production Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
· Minimum 3 years of experience in a food manufacturing or industrial environment.
· Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a production setting.
· Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
· Proven leadership, organizational, and team collaboration skills with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
· Experience with SAP is considered an asset.
· Availability to work 12-hour shifts.
· Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to heat and physically demanding conditions.
· Ability to move freely throughout the facility.
· Lift Truck certification required or considered an asset.
· First Aid/CPR certification considered an asset.
· WSIB Part 1 & 2 certification considered an asset.

Pay: $75,000.00-$89,000.00 per year
