Specialist, Business Development – Natural Gas
APMC is seeking a Specialist, Business Development – Natural Gas to support the evaluation and advancement of strategic opportunities across the natural gas value chain. This role combines market analysis, commercial assessment, and stakeholder engagement to inform decision-making and drive business outcomes. Working closely with internal teams and industry partners, the Specialist will contribute to identifying opportunities, developing recommendations, and supporting initiatives aligned with Alberta’s energy priorities.
Responsibilities
Key Area of Responsibility

Evaluate, and support the pursuit of new business opportunities across the natural gas value chain, including upstream, midstream, downstream and market access.

Conduct market analysis on natural gas supply, demand, infrastructure, pricing, and emerging trends (e.g., LNG, energy transition) to inform strategic decisions.

Build and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders to support commercial outcomes and long-term partnerships.

Develop and deliver high-quality briefings, commercial analyses, and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.

Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful outcomes.

Support the development, tracking and reporting of natural gas business development strategies aligned with corporate priorities.
Secondary Area of Responsibility

Coordinate cross-functional teams and external partners to support project execution and commercial initiatives.

Participate in industry engagements, including meetings, conferences, and working groups.

Contribute to the evaluation of commercial agreements, including review and analysis of key contractual terms.

Candidate Attributes, Professional Experience, and Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, or a related field; advanced degrees or professional designations are considered an asset.

7–10 years of experience in the energy industry, with a focus on natural gas markets, business development, and/or project management.

Strong understanding of natural gas fundamentals, including production, transportation, storage, and marketing in North America.

Experience working in cross-functional, project-based environments with multiple stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to perform commercial and economic analysis to support business opportunities.

Familiarity with natural gas commercial agreements and contractual structures is an asset.
