SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
The Parks Operator I is responsible for maintenance of one or more areas including playgrounds, campgrounds, sports fields, trails, parks and green spaces for the Town of Sylvan Lake to ensure amenities are safe, clean, accessible and enjoyable for all.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintenance and upkeep of public parks, trails, playgrounds and sports fields. May include activities such as landscaping, turf maintenance, sports field maintenance, playground repair and installation and litter picking
- Participate in assigned in-house training in any given area
- May be responsible for assisting the supervisor in mentoring and prioritization of work for your assigned area/team
- Safely and efficiently operate the following pieces of parks equipment; Trucks, skid-steer, UTV, mowers, chainsaw, and other various pieces of equipment necessary to complete daily tasks or projects
- Snow removal and ice control of trails, park areas and sidewalks
- Record daily activities and work orders in the appropriate workflow and project management software
- Document and report complaints and work with the supervisor on action items
- May assist with the ordering of supplies, materials and equipment allowed for within the operating budget for your area
- Perform litter pick-up and emptying of waste receptacles throughout the Town
TRAINING, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Certificate(s) (or working towards) Turf Management, Sports field Operator, CSA Playground Inspector, Horticulturalist or ISA Arborist are also an assets
- Minimum one (1) year of experience preferably for a municipality in one of the following areas: parks/sports field maintenance, landscape maintenance, horticulture, turf management or forestry
- Ability to operate a wide variety of equipment typically used in parks (i.e., mowers, trimmers, chainsaws etc.)
- Experience with various software: audit, recreation programming, project management, asset management is an asset
- Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License (with two moving violations or less)
- Standard First Aid “C” Intermediate
- RCMP Based Criminal Record Check as deemed acceptable by The Town
To be successful in this role, candidates will need to be physically fit for laborious work outdoors, able to lift up to 50 lbs, be detail oriented, safety minded, with proven customer service abilities and a positive team oriented attitude.
