As our firm continues to grow, we are looking for a motivated Staff Accountant to join our collaborative team.
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant will play a key role in delivering accounting and tax services to a diverse portfolio of clients. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in public accounting, has strong attention to detail, and is looking to grow within a supportive and client-focused CPA firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare compilation engagements and financial statements for owner-managed businesses.
- Perform bookkeeping, bank and credit card reconciliations, and maintain general ledgers.
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Assist with month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Prepare corporate, personal, and trust income tax returns.
- Prepare GST/HST, payroll, and other government filings.
- Assist with tax planning and client compliance requirements.
- Communicate directly with clients to gather information and respond to accounting inquiries.
- Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Support senior accountants and partners with client engagements and special projects.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and CRA requirements.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and client service.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) is an asset.
- 1–3 years of experience in public accounting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience preparing corporate and personal tax returns.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Skills
- Experience with CaseWare, CaseView, QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Sage, or similar accounting software.
- Experience using TaxPrep, Profile, or other Canadian tax preparation software is considered an asset.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
