Cedar Strong Prevention & Intervention Society provides supportive, client-centred services to individuals and families in Hope and the surrounding communities.
We are seeking dependable, compassionate, and safety-focused Awake Residential Night Workers to join the team at our new supportive housing facility.
The Awake Residential Night Worker remains awake and attentive throughout the overnight shift, monitors the safety and well-being of residents, responds to emergencies and disturbances, performs security checks, completes required documentation, and helps maintain a clean and comfortable living environment.
This position is well suited to someone who can remain calm under pressure, work effectively with limited supervision, maintain professional boundaries, and respond respectfully to individuals experiencing homelessness, substance-use concerns, mental-health challenges, or other barriers.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the safety and well-being of residents throughout the overnight shift.
- Respond to medical, behavioural, safety, and security concerns in accordance with established procedures.
- Contact emergency medical services, law enforcement, or other appropriate supports when required.
- Observe resident behaviour, investigate disturbances, and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Complete regular patrols of the interior and exterior of the facility.
- Check doors, windows, entrances, and other areas to identify security concerns.
- Address unauthorized visitors and obtain assistance when needed.
- Support residents in following facility expectations and community-living guidelines.
- Complete logbook entries, incident reports, maintenance records, key registers, and other required documentation.
- Communicate relevant information clearly and promptly to supervisors and incoming staff.
- Perform housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, emptying garbage, completing laundry, and conducting spot cleaning.
- Maintain clean refuse and waste-disposal areas.
- Complete minor maintenance tasks within the scope of the position and report larger maintenance concerns to the supervisor.
- Help maintain exterior areas, including entrances, sidewalks, and parking areas.
- Assist with setting up furniture for meetings, activities, or facility functions.
- Assist with monitoring inventories of office, household, and cleaning supplies.
- Assist with morning breakfast service.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12.
- A minimum of six months of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- WHMIS certification.
- FoodSafe certification.
- Naloxone training or willingness to complete required training.

Working Conditions
This position works in a supportive housing and emergency shelter environment. Employees may support individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, substance use, mental-health concerns, and other complex circumstances.
The role may involve responding to overdoses, administering naloxone, managing conflict, addressing emergencies, completing frequent security patrols, and adapting to unforeseen situations.

The position also includes housekeeping, waste removal, exterior cleaning, light maintenance, documentation, and other physical tasks. Candidates must be able to move throughout the facility, remain active during the shift, and safely perform the required duties.
As this position is connected to a new facility that is still under development, the start date and work schedule may be adjusted based on facility readiness, resident needs, staffing requirements, and service-delivery needs. Any adjustments will be made in accordance with the applicable collective agreement, employment standards legislation, and Cedar Strong policies.
