Purpose and Scope
To work in a conscientious and efficient manner during set up and operation to meet Company production standards, while ensuring coils are expanded to specifications set forth in the drawings and quality maintained.
Organization Relationship
The Expander Operator position has a direct responsibility to perform required job functions designated by the OEM/Fin Press Department Foreman in connection with work policies and procedures directed by the Company.
Working Conditions
The Expander Operator/Set up performs job functions in a controlled plant environment and will be required to perform actions such as lifting, bending and standing. Personal protective equipment such as safety eye glasses and boots are mandatory and gloves are recommended. Must be available to work shifts as required.
Duties
- Read work orders and product assembly drawings to identify coil specifications and necessary tools and equipment to use.
- Retrieve all necessary parts and coils for specified job for expanding.
- Program necessary expansion dimensions by selecting appropriate program in computer and initiate
- Complete the initial stage of the Quality Assurance Record.
- Follow set up and expanding procedures including inserting rods and strippers, setting expanding height, insert nests, attach proper back and side stops and add outer door assembly.
- Inspect and measure first expanded coil to ensure coils match drawings and record measurements on the Quality Assurance Record.
- Record coil information on Vertical Expander Checklist Sheet and have Grade 6 verify coil dimensions.
- Operate electric fork lift truck for plate changes.
- Relocate expanded coils to Return Bend Assemblers.
- Ensure all set ups are verified by Grade 6.
Responsibilities
- To ensure products are expanded to quality standards and in an efficient manner.
- Equipment is maintained and stored so to remain in correct working condition.
- Follow all safety procedures, including use of equipment and safety devices, to ensure a safe working environment for self and co-workers.
- Ensure proper quantities are expanded for each job.
- Ensure all set ups are verified by Grade 6.
- Ensure cleanliness of equipment and work area.
- Assist Foreman in training employees when required.
Education and Training
An Expander Operator, at minimum, is required to have a high school diploma or equivalent. Human Resources can determine if education and experiences are considered “equivalent”.
