JOB OVERVIEW:
The Shift Manager is responsible for leading daily janitorial operations to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality services, client satisfaction, and operational excellence. This role oversees frontline employees and supervisors, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual obligations, company policies, and regulatory requirements. The Shift Manager fosters a positive workplace culture through coaching, accountability, and employee development while driving continuous improvement in service quality, safety, and operational performance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to frontline employees to promote employee engagement, accountability, and high performance.

Conduct regular team meetings, daily shift huddles, training sessions, and performance discussions to communicate expectations, address operational challenges, and recognize team achievements.

Manage staffing, scheduling, vacation planning, overtime, and shift coverage to ensure operational requirements are consistently met.

Oversee service delivery by conducting routine inspections, quality audits, and follow-up actions to ensure compliance with contract requirements, company standards, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Build and maintain positive working relationships with GTAA representatives, Terminal Operators, airline representatives and other key stakeholders through regular communication, inspections, and issue resolution.

Ensure route guides/work routines are maintained, updated, and implemented to support efficient service delivery.

Respond promptly to client concerns and operational issues while ensuring contractual service levels and response time expectations are achieved.

Monitor equipment, inventory, and facility assets by ensuring preventative maintenance, reporting deficiencies, and maintaining operational readiness.

Promote and enforce all health and safety policies, monthly safety reporting, toolbox talks, inspections, incident reporting, investigations and participation in Joint Health and Safety Committee activities.

Partner with Human Resources & Site Manager to support performance management, investigations, corrective action, and policy compliance, applicable Collective Agreements and BEST policy guidelines to maintain good employee relations

Work with Site Manager on safety and HR-related investigations that occur on-site

Monitor operational and financial performance by managing labour resources, controlling overtime, identifying efficiencies, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Track and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs), including quality inspection results, client satisfaction, response times, staffing levels, safety compliance, and operational performance.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory or management experience in janitorial services, facilities management, airport operations, or a related service industry.

Experience leading large, diverse, and unionized workforces is considered an asset.

Demonstrated experience in customer service, employee performance management, quality assurance, and operational leadership.

Working knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, Employment Standards Act (ESA), collective agreements, and workplace investigations.

Ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins as operationally required.

Valid driver's licence (where required).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience using scheduling, inspection, and reporting software.

Ability to obtain and maintain all required security clearances and certifications for the worksite.
