Your Role
Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, the Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for leading the day-to-day warehouse operations while ensuring the safe, efficient, and accurate flow of materials throughout the facility.
Success in this role is measured by your ability to deliver operational excellence through strong leadership, inventory accuracy, productivity, safety, and service. You will oversee receiving, storage, inventory control, order picking, and shipping while developing a high-performing team and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Working closely with Production, Planning, Purchasing, Quality, Transportation, and Maintenance, you will ensure warehouse operations support the manufacturing process and customer expectations.
Key ResponsibilitiesWarehouse Operations
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily warehouse activities, including receiving, storage, inventory management, order fulfillment, and shipping.
- Optimize labour allocation and warehouse resources to maximize productivity and operational efficiency.
- Ensure inventory accuracy through cycle counts, inventory reconciliation, and established inventory control processes.
- Coordinate shipping schedules and inbound deliveries to support production and customer requirements.
- Maintain warehouse organization and material flow to ensure efficient operations.
- Ensure warehouse equipment is properly maintained and safely operated.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of warehouse employees.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Manage employee relations in a unionized environment, including attendance management, disciplinary actions, workplace investigations, and temporary work assignments.
- Participate in recruitment, onboarding, training, and employee development.
- Conduct performance evaluations and probation reviews.
- Coordinate forklift operator training and maintain certification records.
Inventory & Operational Excellence
- Monitor key warehouse KPIs, including productivity, inventory accuracy, order accuracy, service levels, and operational efficiency.
- Identify process improvement opportunities using Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Standardize warehouse processes and ensure adherence to operational procedures.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve material flow and warehouse performance.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Promote a strong Health & Safety culture and ensure compliance with all company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all employees follow safe work practices and warehouse operating procedures.
- Verify warehouse equipment and safety devices remain compliant and fully operational.
- Maintain warehouse cleanliness and organization in accordance with 5S principles and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), where applicable.
- Participate in internal audits, external audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaboration
- Work closely with Production, Planning, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and Transportation teams to support plant operations.
- Coordinate activities with third-party warehouses, carriers, and transportation providers.
- Communicate operational priorities effectively across departments.
- Support initiatives that improve warehouse performance and customer service.
Qualifications/Education
Diploma or Degree in:
- Supply Chain Management
- Logistics
- Operations Management
- Business Administration
- Or equivalent experience
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in warehouse or distribution operations within a manufacturing environment.
- Food manufacturing experience is considered a strong asset.
- Experience supervising employees in a unionized environment is highly preferred.
- Experience with inventory control and warehouse operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Technical Skills
Strong experience with:
- Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
- ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics or equivalent)
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Inventory control and cycle counting processes
- Warehouse performance metrics and KPI management
- Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or Continuous Improvement methodologies
Forklift certification (counterbalance and/or narrow aisle) is considered an asset.
