Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Watermain and Sewer Operator from Local 793 to join our team. This position involves operating and maintaining heavy equipment and tools essential for the installation, repair, and maintenance of watermain and sewer infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical skills, experience with various types of heavy machinery, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Duties and Responsibilities
- Work within a sewer/watermain crew under the supervision of a foreman
- Operate and maintain various types of equipment, including but not limited to excavators, backhoes, mini excavators, loaders, skid steers, bulldozers and packers
- Ability to excavate for the installation of mainline sewer/watermain, chambers, manholes, services, backfill, and road reconstruction in traffic closures and around exiting utilities
- Perform daily pre-operational checks and routine maintenance on machines
- Work in an organized and safe manner according to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and company policies
- Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and effectively
- Adhere to project specifications and timelines
- Ensure proper use and storage of equipment
- Work closely with site supervisors and crew to complete tasks on schedule
- Maintain awareness of site conditions, underground utilities, and surrounding hazards
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations on-site
- Support general labour duties and assist with equipment relocation as needed
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of 5 years previous mainline or fine grade experience operating heavy equipment is required
- Mechanical knowledge and understanding of equipment functions is essential
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe work environment.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment and site.
- Adhere to project tight deadlines
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Must be an active Local 793 Union member
Compensation & Benefits:
- $54.53 Union hourly rate
