StartCan Business Consulting is hiring on behalf of our client; a full-service auto repair and detailing shop in North Vancouver, backed by more than 25 years of hands-on experience in the trade. Known for advanced diagnostics, honest service, and fair pricing, the company is growing and looking for a reliable, hands-on mechanic to join its team.
About the Role
This is a full-time assistant position in our mechanics section (detailing is handled separately) with lots of learning opportunities. You'll work directly under the shop manager, handling diagnostics, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, oil changes, and general maintenance across all makes and models.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Perform automotive repairs including engine, transmission, brake, suspension, and electrical systems
- Carry out oil changes, fluid checks, and routine maintenance across all makes and models
- Repair and service brakes, suspension, and steering systems
- Inspect vehicles and identify additional repair or maintenance needs
- Complete repairs correctly the first time to minimize comebacks and rework
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control on every job
- Perform tire work, including rotations, replacements, and wheel alignments
- Follow WorkSafeBC safety procedures, including proper use of lifts, tools, and hazardous materials handling
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers about vehicle issues and recommended work
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Keep accurate service records and documentation for completed work
- Work efficiently to keep jobs moving through a fast-paced shop
- Follow direction from the manager and coordinate smoothly with other mechanics on shared jobs
- Handle customer phone calls and email communication as needed
- Order replacement parts from vendors and pick them up as needed
- Reliable and punctual; this is a small team where consistent attendance matters
What We're Looking For
- 1 year of hands-on repair experience; comfortable fixing engine, electrical, brake, and suspension issues
- Good English communication skills (you'll interact with customers regularly)
- A genuine commitment to quality work and excellent customer service; someone who takes pride in doing the job right and helping build our reputation and business
- A dependable, efficient work ethic; this is a fast-paced shop and we need someone who can prioritize and keep moving
- Someone who takes direction well and works well alongside the manager and other mechanics
- Valid driver's license
- Preference may be given to candidates who can reliably commute to our North Vancouver location and consistently arrive on time for scheduled shifts.
